Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center has 300-400 trauma alerts per year. We are a tertiary care center and cover the northern two thirds of Maine. Level 2 center with recent recertification from ACS with no deficiencies.
Summary:
The Manager, Nursing has fiscal and operational responsibility and accountability for standards of care and service within specified clinical areas/units. He/she provides leadership for improving patient care, planning, staff performance, systems improvements, and teaching. Works with the Medical Director to develop and evaluate standards of care and practice for identified patient populations. The Manager, Nursing participates in the setting and implementation of the organization's goals, priorities, and strategies and works with other disciplines and groups to provide the highest quality of care across the system. The Manager, Nursing is responsible for the development of staff within their Department.
Responsibilities:
BLS Required.
At least three years of trauma, critical care, or ED experience required.

Responsibilities:
- Acts as a nursing liaison between the Trauma Program Staff and all patients care areas within the trauma care continuum at Northern Light Health.
- Works with Trauma Program Staff (consisting of Trauma Program Director, Patient Care Administrator for Trauma Program, and Trauma Data Coordinator) to ensure adherence to training standards for nursing and physician staff as required by the Medical Center
- Actively participates on committees and task forces related to trauma care standards, policies, and quality improvement, including, but not limited to:
- Trauma Program Staff
- Trauma Program Quality Committee
- Trauma Morbidity and Mortality Review
- Represents the Medical Center with active membership and participation in state and regional committees related to trauma care, including, but not limited to:
- Maine Emergency Medical Services' Trauma Advisory Committee (TAC)
- Maine TAC Quality Team
- Maine TAC Trauma Center Survey Team
- Supervise the Trauma Data Coordinator.
- Facilitates maximum integration of trauma registry database with other trauma program and hospital systems
- Provides limited cross-coverage for house supervisors and department heads in accordance with existing cross-coverage patterns.
- Organizes or otherwise facilitates trauma education for nurses (e.g., Trauma Nurse Core Course) and assists in organizing or otherwise facilitating trauma education for physicians (e.g., ATLS)
- Organizes or otherwise facilitates interdepartmental collaboration with regard to trauma care at Northern Light Health.
- Assists Education and Training Department in teaching Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
- Promotes, organizes, and participates in outreach education efforts at hospitals in the service area participating in the Maine Trauma System.
- Participates in regional EMS educational activities related to trauma on request.
- Participates in regional lay education related to trauma and injury prevention on request.
- Responds to trauma response pages while on duty and on premises. Other on-call duties may be negotiated.
- Maintains clinical skills by working limited shifts in area of expertise if mutually agreed with DHN and not distracting from other duties previously described.
- Serves to coordinate care of new major trauma patients while on duty.
- Coordinates and administers quality improvement activities to trauma.
- Performs contemporaneous review of records and care plans for any patient admitted for at least 3 days, in conjunction with Trauma Program Director; provides clinical QI, education, and feedback related to these activities, and maintains documentation of each.
- Develops and administers the Trauma Program budget.
- Works with the Trauma Program Staff and other services as necessary to ensure Medical Center involvement in multidisciplinary state and regional trauma conferences on a regular and ongoing basis.
- Attends all mandatory inservices / meetings
- Completes iCare prior to annual evaluation.
- Initials all mandatory posting, memos and minutes.
