Works by Diana Young in The Sohns Gallery
Few Maine artists are as beloved, and as prolific, as the Bangor-based painter Diana Young. With a career spanning over half a century and a portfolio of work that numbers into the thousands, Diana Young is a humble force in the Bangor art scene. Having been influenced in her formative years by artists of the Cubist, Fauvist and Expressionist movements, Young constructs her paintings using a bold palette and animated, highly expressive brushwork. Her paintings serve as an introspective narrative to her surroundings, toeing the line between journalism and art. Many of her paintings capture the architecture and everyday goings-on of Bangor’s city streets, while others document her time traveling around the world. Throughout each piece, every line is animated, every color is joyful and effulgent, every figure is in the throws of movement. Young’s work feels like a celebration of living in the moment and a call to viewers to rejoice alongside her.
Please come participate in Downtown Bangor’s First Friday Art Walk, and join us for a reception and artist talk with Diana Young on Friday, June 5th from 4-6 pm at The Sohns Gallery, located within The Rock & Art Shop at 36 Central Street, Bangor, Maine.
