The County Federal Credit Union Breaks Ground on New Bangor Location
BANGOR, ME – The County Federal Credit Union celebrated its forthcoming new location with a ceremonial ground breaking on the corner of State Street and Broadway in Bangor. While work began on the site earlier in the year, the ceremony was held Tuesday morning with officials from the City and from The County.
“In 2021, Penobscot Federal Credit Union and The County Federal Credit Union came together,” said The County’s President and CEO, Ryan Ellsworth. “Penobscot Federal had served this community for 53 years, and many of the people in our Bangor branch today were part of that story. Today, we celebrate with those folks, with our members, and with our community for the next exciting chapter in the story of The County.”
While The County has been operating in Downtown Bangor since the merger occurred more than five years ago, the new location will represent stronger roots in Bangor. The new location will also feature updated technology which will increase member accessibility to services after hours, an additional drive through lane, and more staff than the current Bangor branch.
“Our Downtown branch has served us well and has served our members well,” said Tamra Kilcollins, Chair of The County’s Board of Directors. “As we collectively work to build meaningful relationships that promote the success of our members and the communities we serve, our relationship with our members and businesses in Bangor has grown to the point where it’s time to grow with it. This new location will allow The County to create a better experience for all involved.”
The spot represents growth in an area that has been vacant for several years, and investment in the community. The County previously was leasing its space in Bangor since they merged with Penobscot Federal Credit Union in 2021.
“This space that has been vacant for nearly a decade will have a gorgeous brand new location for The County Federal Credit Union,” said Bangor City Councilor Carolyn Fish. “This is an example of hard work, attention, and focusing on its members, which are all benchmarks of The County. It’s also an example of a tremendous investment in their business and in our community.”
“From Aroostook to Bangor and now across the state, we’re one credit union owned by its members,” said Ellsworth. “This building is our promise to the members here that this is their credit union, too.”
The new location of The County Federal Credit Union is expected to open in the summer of 2027.
