September is Suicide Awareness Month: Northern Light Acadia Hospital urges communities to seek support and connect with resources

Bangor, Maine (September 17, 2024) – As September marks Suicide Awareness Month, Northern Light Acadia Hospital is encouraging individuals, families, and communities to break the stigma surrounding mental health and suicide.
According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), suicide is the second leading cause of death among people aged 10-34 in the United States. To raise awareness and promote prevention, it is crucial to start an open and honest conversation about mental health and suicide.
“Suicide Awareness Month is an opportunity for us to come together, share resources, and start the conversation about mental health and suicide prevention. We all need to work together to deal with his public health issue.” says Anthony Ng, MD, DFAPA medical director, Community Services, Acadia Hospital. “By connecting individuals with the support they need, we can create a safe and compassionate environment that fosters resilience and well-being.”
