Maine MultiCultural Center Announces Executive Leadership Transition

BREWER, Maine — Maine MultiCultural Center (MMCC) today announced the retirement of Executive Director Pamela Proulx-Curry and the promotion of Adrián Arias-Palomo to Executive Director.

Proulx-Curry, who became the organization’s first Executive Director in 2023, has helped guide the Maine MultiCultural Center through a period of significant growth and impact. Under her leadership, the organization expanded services supporting New Mainers and strengthened partnerships throughout the greater Bangor region. The organization has played a critical role in helping immigrant and refugee families access housing, employment connections, transportation, cultural integration support, and community resources. Proulx-Curry will stay on as a volunteer MMCC board member.

“Pam’s leadership, compassion, and tireless advocacy have helped shape the Maine MultiCultural Center into the trusted and impactful organization it is today,” said Marwa Hassanien, MMCC Board Chair. “Her commitment to welcoming and supporting diverse communities has left a lasting mark on Bangor and the many families MMCC serves.”

Arias-Palomo has served as Program Manager for MMCC and has been instrumental in coordinating programs, strengthening community partnerships, and supporting immigrant and refugee families throughout the region. In his new role as Executive Director, he will oversee the organization’s strategic growth, community engagement, and ongoing support services.

“Adrián brings tremendous passion, experience, and vision to this role,” said Hassanien. “He has already demonstrated exceptional leadership within the organization and deep commitment to the communities we serve. We are excited for the future of MMCC under his direction.”

Arias-Palomo said he is honored to continue the organization’s mission and build on the strong foundation established by Proulx-Curry. “I am deeply grateful for Pam’s mentorship and leadership,” said Arias-Palomo. “The Maine MultiCultural Center has become an essential resource and welcoming space for so many families. I look forward to continuing this important work alongside our staff, volunteers, partners, and community members.”

Proulx-Curry said she is proud of the organization’s accomplishments and confident in the transition. “It has been an incredible privilege to serve the Maine MultiCultural Center and the families who have become part of our community,” she said. “I know Adrián will lead with integrity, compassion, and dedication, and I am excited to see the organization continue to grow and thrive.”

Since becoming a nonprofit organization in 2018, MMCC has expanded programs focused on immigrant integration, volunteer support, workforce connections, cultural awareness, and refugee resettlement assistance throughout the Bangor area.
