Inaugural Peter Saucier Memorial Scholarship Among Acadia FCU’s 2025 Awards
ST. JOHN VALLEY and BANGOR, Maine (June 19, 2025) – Acadia Federal Credit Union is pleased to announce the awarding of $17,000 in scholarships to five exceptional high school students, including the first-ever recipient of the new Peter Saucier Memorial Scholarship.
The memorial scholarship honors the legacy of Peter Saucier, a cherished Acadia FCU board member and community volunteer known for his kindness, generosity, and positivity. The award celebrates students who reflect his spirit of compassion, resilience, and service to others.
The inaugural recipient of the Peter Saucier Memorial Scholarship is Madison Morneault, a recent graduate of Fort Kent Community High School. Madison, daughter of Craig and Missy Morneault, plans to pursue a degree in nursing at the University of Maine at Fort Kent.
“We’re so proud of Maddie for her commitment to our community,” said Peter Saucier’s wife, Diane Saucier, along with daughters Angela Landeen and Jill Jandreau. “Her passion for helping others truly reflects the spirit of what this scholarship is all about, and we know Pete would be honored to see someone like Maddie carrying that torch forward. We wish her all the best in what’s ahead.”
The $5,000 scholarship is to be awarded annually to a graduating senior at Fort Kent Community High School who plans to attend a post-secondary institution and is an Acadia FCU member or the child of one. The recipient is selected by a committee that includes at least one of Saucier’s family members.
Acadia FCU also awarded four $3,000 scholarships through its annual program, an increase of $4,000 from the previous year. Lily Oliver, a graduate of Fort Kent Community High School and daughter of Darnell and Stephanie Oliver, will attend Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, where she plans to major in Environmental Engineering. Fellow Fort Kent graduate Sadie Cairns, daughter of Jill Bouchard Cairns, will pursue a degree in Theater at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham. Braelynn Wilcox, daughter of Timothy and Ashley Wilcox and a graduate of Hermon High School, will attend Husson University in Bangor to study Health Sciences. Lastly, Joshua Jean-Jacques, a graduate of Hampden Academy and son of Jims and Tania Jean-Jacques, will study Biology at Colby College in Waterville.
Scholarship recipients were selected based on academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, a written essay, and personal accomplishments. “We are proud to support these remarkable students as they take the next step in their educational journey,” said Acadia’s President and CEO, David Desjardins. “Their hard work, determination, and community spirit reflect the values we believe in at Acadia FCU. These students truly stood out, and we are honored to be part of their educational path.”
