COMMUNITY SUPPORT BECOMES MORE VITAL FOR FOOD PANTRY
WITH LOSS OF NOVEMBER SNAP BENEFITS, RECORD DEMAND
OHI, BREWER – The Brewer Area Food Pantry is experiencing a record demand as more people struggle to meet basic needs following the loss of enhanced SNAP benefits and continued increases in food prices.
In September alone, the food pantry assisted more than 1,300 people and distributed more than 14,000 pounds of food to neighbors in need.
“Each week we meet new families who never imagined they would need help putting food on the table,” said Jessica Gibby, Brewer Area Food Pantry coordinator. “With grocery prices still high and reduced federal food assistance, many are turning to community pantries for the first time just to keep food on the table.”
The Brewer Area Food Pantry, operated by OHI, relies entirely on the generosity of the community — from individual donors to local businesses that host food drives, make contributions, and volunteer their time.
“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who donates or steps up to help,” Gibby added. “Every food donation, every dollar, every hour volunteered helps us serve more people. Our local businesses and community partners have been remarkable in their willingness to support the pantry and ensure their neighbors don’t go hungry.”
Community members and organizations are encouraged to continue giving, whether through food donations, financial contributions, or volunteer efforts. All donations stay local and directly support families in the Brewer and Eddington area.
Here’s How You Can Help:
- Donate food or funds at the Brewer Area Food Pantry, 222 N. Main Street, Brewer.
- Host a food drive at your business, school, or community group.
- Volunteer your time — even a few hours can make a difference.
- Spread the word by sharing pantry updates and encouraging others to give.
“Every pound of food and every dollar donated helps us reach another family,” Gibby added. “Together, we can make sure everyone in our community has access to nutritious meals.”
