Champion the Cure Challenge Sets $1M Goal in 2027

October 27, 2026
A cancer diagnosis may feel overwhelming, but having a sense of hope can go a long way for patients and families who are facing this complicated disease. Each year, thousands of people come together at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center’s Champion the Cure Challenge to celebrate and encourage members of the cancer community.

The 2026 Challenge raised more than $850,000, brightening the path for cancer survivors, family, friends, and caregivers. Funds raised expand resources and research for patients with cancer, advancing technology and equipment, targeted treatments, as well as nurse navigation.

More than 29,000 community members have helped raise $9.5 million since 2010, and there’s more work to be done.

“To support our patients, families, and staff, we’ve set our largest annual goal to date,” says Ava Collins, MHA, FACHE, Northern Light Health chief executive, Central Region – Bangor. “In 2027, we plan to raise $1 million at Champion the Cure Challenge, and we’ll need more commitment and momentum than ever to meet that target.”

It’s never too early to start planning to make a difference for loved ones with cancer. Save the dates for these upcoming events:
  • Walk, Run, Cycle on Saturday, August 21, 2027
  • Motorcycle Ride and Car Show on Sunday, August 22, 2027
“When our generous community members give back at the Challenge, we strengthen vital resources for our patients who deserve world class care close to home,” continues Collins.
