American Idol Alum to Perform Saturday - April 5 at Hollywood Casino
BANGOR, ME – Rocky Peter, a self-taught singer-songwriter who performed everywhere from the 2016 Rio Olympics to American Idol will be performing Saturday night at Hollywood Casino’s Sound Stage Lounge. Peter, who was raised in Nigeria, West Africa, performs a style of music that is influenced by reggae, soul, pop and folk music.
“One of the greatest things about the Sound Stage Lounge is that it allows us to bring a diverse series of performers into Bangor,” said Hollywood Casino vice president and general manager, Marc Guastella. “It is a unique setup and it allows for people to not only enjoy the music while on the gaming floor, but also up close and personal at the bar, which is in the center of it all. I think our visitors will enjoy the music put forward by Rocky Peter on Friday night just as the judges and producers on American Idol enjoyed it.”
Rocky was abandoned in a poor village in Nigeria when he was just two years old. He survived harsh experiences such as malaria caused by mosquito bites, starvation, and child slavery. He escaped from slavery, educated himself, and moved back to the United States and graduated from UC Riverside with a degree in Biological Sciences. Today he travels throughout the country to perform, work as a peace ambassador, and inspire those young and old to follow their dreams.
The Sound Stage Lounge began featuring live music again late last year. Hollywood Casino Hotel & Raceway announced in December that it is bringing live music back to the Sound Stage Lounge for the first time since it was restricted due to the pandemic in 2020. Kayla Wass performed in mid-December. Since then, acts have performed every Saturday night, with no cover for people to attend.
Unless indicated otherwise, live music normally begins at 8 p.m. and the complete schedule can be found on the casino’s website. The schedule for April and May’s performers is:
April 5 - Rocky Peter
April 12 - Brian Walker
April 19 - DJ Juice
April 26 - Mystical Magic Music
May 3 - Noah & Eli Smith
May 10 - MEGS
May 17 - DJ Case
Friday, May 23 - Kayla Wass
May 24 - Rob Burnell
May 31 - Mystical Magic Music
The return of live music to the Sound Stage Lounge is the latest step taken by Hollywood Casino to round out its entertainment offerings. In November, it was announced by Waterfront Concerts that the summer concert series will be the Hollywood Casino Concert Series at the Maine Savings Amphitheater, with acts already announced including Goo Goo Dolls, Avril Lavigne, Shania Twain, Billy Idol with Joan Jett, and Willie Nelson with Bob Dyland and Sheryl Crow. Across the street, the Cross Insurance Center hosts the Hollywood Casino Ballroom Series.
In addition to bringing back live music at the Sound Stage Lounge, Hollywood Casino has expanded its operating hours, now staying open until 2 a.m. A new food option opened in the casino called Zombie Dogz, offering an array of gourmet hot dots. Zombie Dogz is open daily from 11 a.m. - 1 a.m. With the new hours and new dining option, Hollywood Casino is adding new jobs, and is actively recruiting to fill new slots.
“This is an exciting time to be in Downtown Bangor and it’s exciting for Hollywood Casino,” said Guastella.
Rocky Peter will be performing Saturday night from 8 p.m. - 12 a.m. There is no cover to get in, although nobody is allowed on the gaming floor under the age of 21, and without proper ID. The Sound Stage Lounge is located in the middle of the gaming floor.
