Organized in the early 1960s, the Greater Bangor Area Branch NAACP is an all-volunteer, nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to the eradication of racism in all its forms. We hold membership meetings on a regular basis, organize events that serve the cause of racial justice, and help individuals who are confronting racial bias. We are the only nationally recognized civil-rights organization in Central and Northern Maine.

The GBA Branch NAACP adheres to the Vision Statement and Objectives of the National NAACP: The vision of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is to ensure a society in which all individuals have equal rights without discrimination based on race.
