CEO and President of Dexter Enterprises LLC
Gregory W. Powell is the chief executive officer and president of Dexter Enterprises LLC, a wealth management firm, and executive chairman of the Harold Alfond Foundation, the largest charitable foundation in Maine. Under Powell’s strategic leadership, the Foundation has awarded over $525 million in grants to build the strength of Maine families, communities, and institutions. This has included significant statewide investments in higher education, health care, frontline workers, and the STEM economy, as well to the Harold Alfond College Challenge, a first-in-the-nation program to provide $500 higher-education grants for all children born in the state. In 2020, Powell announced over $500 million in additional grant commitments to help grow Maine’s workforce and economy, including grants to the University of Maine System, the Maine Community College System, and The Jackson Laboratory (JAX). Powell also serves as the chief executive officer and president of Dexter Private Trust Company LLC, an officer and director of multiple Alfond family-held businesses, and an officer of the Bill and Joan Alfond Family Foundation. He has served on the boards of Fairholme Trust Company and Spinnaker Trust Company, and currently serves on the boards of Maine Hardware and Count & Crush. Powell is a graduate of Wesleyan University and the University of Maine School of Law. He holds honorary degrees from the University of New England, Colby College, and Thomas College. Powell is a native of Waterville, Maine, where he attended Waterville public schools. He currently resides in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, with his wife Amy. They have two grown daughters.
